Orange County, 2019
We opened Pur Bowls to create a better kind of dessert.
Pur Bowls began with a simple goal: give Orange County a colorful dessert made with plant based ingredients that could still feel satisfying and fun. Our first location celebrated its grand opening in Fountain Valley in August 2019. Huntington Beach followed one month later in September 2019.
Acai bowls felt like the right place to begin. They could bring fruit, creamy texture, fresh toppings, and crunch into one bowl while leaving room for every guest to make it their own.

Today
The learning continues
Customer feedback and ingredient research still guide how we improve the products behind every bowl.
A turning point
Good taste was not enough.
Like many new bowl shops, we began with bases purchased through a distributor. Guests enjoyed them, but the more we studied their formulas, the more we realized they did not meet the ingredient standard we wanted for Pur Bowls. The bases relied more heavily on cane sugar and fillers, and the fruit concentration was not where we wanted it to be.
Instead of accepting the standard distributor formula, we spent months developing our own recipes. Our private label bases are more concentrated than the products we began with, which allows us to use more fruit per serving. They contain no cane sugar or artificial flavors and are lightly sweetened with agave. The amount of agave varies because some fruits are naturally sweeter than others.
Fruit and agave contain sugar, so we do not call our bowls sugar free. We prefer to explain what is in the recipe and let guests make an informed choice.
Made for Pur Bowls
We changed the granola and nut butters too.
Granola is one of the largest ingredients in many bowls, so it deserved the same attention as the base. We moved away from the widely available granola we originally used and developed a private label Pur Bowls recipe. Our granola is made with plant based ingredients and is certified gluten free.
Certification applies to the granola product. It does not mean the entire store is gluten free. Pur Bowls is not a nut free facility, and cross contact is possible. Guests with food allergies should speak directly with the location preparing their order.
Our nut butters are also made under the Pur Bowls label. These products cost more to make than the standard options we began with, but greater control over major bowl ingredients is central to the brand we are building.
What guides us
Simple choices, honest details, and room to improve.
Plant based by default
Our bowls are made with plant based ingredients. Bee pollen is an optional topping at all locations, and honey is available at Huntington Beach. These two toppings are not plant based.
Made without cane sugar
Our bases contain no cane sugar or artificial flavors. A small amount of agave is used, with the amount adjusted for each recipe.
Certified gluten free granola
Our private label granola is plant based and certified gluten free. We state the certification clearly without describing the entire facility as gluten free.
Pricing by size
Choose a 12 oz, 16 oz, or 24 oz bowl, select one or two bases, and add the toppings that fit inside. Separate side servings cost extra.
Eat pur, live pur
The next improvement matters as much as the last one.
Pur Bowls is still growing and still learning. The feedback and research that led us to rebuild our bases and granola continue to shape the brand. Our goal is to keep improving what we serve while making every visit colorful, personal, and enjoyable.
